Meet Sylwia, our Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist based in Poland 🇵🇱

Tell us a bit about yourself and your role at Groupon.

My journey at Groupon started in October 2021 as a Senior Recruiter. I’m still in this role, enjoying recruiting for various roles across the globe! Beside Europe (main focus is on Poland and Spain; but in the past it was also Italy, Germany, UK) I’m recruiting for sales roles in Australia and UAE, which is very exciting. It is also a pleasure to work with different stakeholders (EMEA, US, India), which makes my work even more interesting!

What does a typical day look like?

Each day I’m opening: GMail, chat, calendar, LinkedIn, WorkDay and Asana. LinkedIn and Workday are my tools used on a daily basis. Normally, I’m focusing on reviewing new applications for various open roles, communication with Hiring Managers, Comp & Ben (when needed), my team; then scheduling phone or Google Meet screenings, scheduling interviews, gathering feedback. There is a lot of talking and talking, but also writing and admin tasks too.

And then the most exciting and rewarding part: presenting a fair offer to a selected candidate! There’s of course many many other things that I have to do, each day is very different.

Can you give us a sneak peek into some exciting projects you are working on?

Usually most excitement I get is from recruiting for sales roles, because they drive the business! It’s very pleasant to see how I can bring new talents to the organization, who will build the success of Groupon.

Groupon is going through a unique transformation. What's the most exciting aspect of it?

We are having a lot of standardized processes, which makes our TA (Talent Acquisition) life much easier. Overall the transformation process sometimes is not an easy one. I have a lot of new team mates and a direct manager, but sometimes the change is the only thing which can bring some positive results.

What has been your proudest moment so far at Groupon?

I’m proud of recruiting for the hardest roles to fill, which I’ve done successfully (Sales Trainer in Berlin, Senior Accounting Analyst, Intercompany). I have also won a Customer Focused award in 2022.

What do your parents think you do?

Probably more admin work than I actually do. But more or less I think they understand what I’m doing ;)

What’s your favourite Groupon memory?

Probably Team Building in London in 2022 and the most recent one in Prague this year, meeting my TA team! And preparing with JUICE team Halloween and Christmas decorations back then in 2022.

What was your first job?

Secretary in a Private English School.

What is one non-work activity or hobby that you're into?

Too many to write about all of them! Reading books, painting, traveling, hiking, riding a bike, horror movies, craft beers…. And many more!

If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?

Oh, a tough one. Maybe Fiodor Dostojewski or Michaił Bułhakow (I really loved in the past their books; it would be an honor to speak with one of the most recognizable authors of all time!)

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be and why?

Definitely a writer or book translator - I always dreamed about this job.
