Meet Ciera, our Divisional Sales Manager based in Chicago 🇺🇸
Ciera began her journey at almost 4 years ago as a sales rep and quickly rose to a management role. Leading a dedicated team covering the East Region, she is now collaborating with our Midwest team on exciting projects, including expanding our sales team in Chicago.

Tell us about your journey to Groupon and what is your role?

I began working with Groupon in September of 2020 after college graduation and I am coming up on my four year anniversary shortly! I began as a sales rep and then found myself in a management role about three years into my career.

Tell us a little about your team.

I love my team! Me and my team of sales reps, inbound and outbound, work on the East Region. This includes the major cities of DC and Philadelphia. We work together closely to close top quality merchants with excellent campaigns.

Can you give us a sneak peek into some exciting projects or challenges your team is currently tackling?

We are currently working with our Midwest team! So we have the wonderful opportunity to work in the Chicago region which is home for many of my reps!

We heard that you are currently expanding the sales team in the US. Can you tell us more about that?

We recently took over a new office in downtown Chicago and we are looking to hire close to 100 new BD reps to help expand our sales organization and also fill up our new office.

What are the top 3 roles you’re looking to hire in your team and why?

Sales representatives to help grow our BD team in order to help reach as much across the US as possible.

Groupon is going through a unique transformation. What's the most exciting aspect of it?

I think seeing new faces and filling up the Chicago office is one of the most exciting parts about this transformation. I love connecting with colleagues and being able to speak to them face to face. Moving from a virtual workspace to an in-person one is awesome.

What is the best piece of advice you've ever been given?

Do not let minuscule things affect you or your day! I think in Sales it can be very easy to be down on yourself because of the highs and lows you might experience but it is all a part of the process and when you are low that only means you can go up from there!

What has been your proudest moment so far at Groupon?

Being promoted to Divisional Sales Manager! I love managing people and being a source of help and advice for my sales reps so I was so grateful for the opportunity to have a team of my own.

What qualities do you believe are essential in a team member, especially in our current phase of transformation? What do you look for when you hire into your team?

We are looking for outgoing and self-motivated people who are organized workers and go-getters.

What would you recommend to anyone looking to start building a career in sales?

Go for it! I think people are super hesitant to go into sales because of how nerve wracking it is but the best way to learn and become a great salesperson is by jumping in head first.

Your first job?

My first job was actually at my local community pool when I was 14 and since I wasn’t able to drive I would walk a mile to the pool every day in the summer to get there. I would help with toddler swim classes where we would get them used to the water and teach them how to swim. 🏊
