Senior Technical Product Manager - Global Platform Team

Description

Become a better developer by building things that help local businesses around the world thrive

Groupon is a marketplace that brings people more ways to get the most out of their city. By enabling real-time mobile commerce across local businesses, live events, and travel destinations, Groupon helps people find and discover experiences––big and small, new and familiar––that make for a full, fun, and rewarding life. Groupon helps local businesses grow and strengthen customer relationships––resulting in strong, vibrant communities. Even with thousands of employees spread across multiple continents, we still maintain a culture that inspires innovation, rewards risk-taking, and celebrates success.

The Platform Product Team in Groupon is looking for a Senior Technical Product Manager for Groupon’s Global API Platform. This platform is the front door to one of the most popular mobile applications in the world. It enables delightful experiences across a multitude of client platforms including phones, tablets, browsers and is even integrated into a number of 3rd party systems around the world. It interacts with a diverse array of backend services to collect, aggregate and abstract data for client consumption. This privileged integration point exposes the team members to a wide variety of challenges from the deep technical implementations of the scalable core platform to the consumer and merchant experiences and features.

As a Senior Technical Product Manager on this team, you will be responsible for defining the vision, strategy and roadmap to meet the business needs, and partnering with the engineering teams to build and operate a highly reliable and scalable Global API Platform.

We're a "best of both worlds" kind of company. We're big enough to have resources and scale, but small enough that a single person has a surprising amount of autonomy and can make a meaningful impact. We're curious, fun, a little intense, and kind of obsessed with helping local businesses thrive. Does that sound like a compelling place to work?

What we are looking for:

  • Delivery track record with strong technical background: You have a proven track record of delivering deeply technical solutions at large scales and with high customer impact. You have experience with Service Oriented Architecture. You are well versed in designing robust APIs taking into consideration security and privacy implications.

  • Strategic thinker. You are a strong critical thinker. You ask tough and thoughtful questions with an eye on customer and business needs. You see around corners and keep abreast with industry trends. You prioritize for long term impact while making incremental progress.

  • Cross-functional team player. You have worked with a diverse set of stakeholders to set expectations and drive outcomes working together as a team.

  • Strong Communicator: You communicate clearly and persuasively in multiple mediums with peers, stakeholders, engineers and executives.

You’ll spend time doing the following:

  • Collaborate with product, engineering and business teams to understand the customer and business requirements

  • Define vision, strategy and roadmap for the API Platform with stakeholders buy-in

  • Write API and functional specifications

  • Define end-to-end platform solutions to enable new business initiatives and consumer features

  • Drive incremental progress with quarterly and sprint planning

  • Partner with engineering teams and architects to design and deliver platform functionality, and maintain a high bar for platform SLA

  • Define platform policies, standards and best practices

  • Ensure services integrate into the overall platform in a coherent and performant way, with an eye towards a single platform serving all geographies

We’re excited about you if you have:

  • 5-7+ years of related product or development experience at a large scale e-commerce company

  • Familiarity with API frameworks

  • Experience building solutions using public cloud platforms

  • Ability to lead multiple initiatives simultaneously

  • Experience with agile methodologies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience
