The Groupon Cloud Platform Compute group is looking to hire a Staff Engineer with experience in implementing and providing Cloud Platform services to Development teams.

You report to a Senior Engineering leader and provide technical leadership and oversight across the breadth of that organization. You lead not only how to solve technical problems in your domain, but what problems need to be solved for the business and how to prioritize them. Your function is a blend of leadership and implementation.

Groupon operates at hyper scale with 500+ micro services and millions of users and transactions a day. We are in the process of finalising the migration of this platform to Kubernetes in AWS Cloud which presents new and interesting scaling and cost challenges for us, we are looking for a Staff Engineer that can be part of this. 


 

You’ll spend time on the following:

  • Be a force multiplier for our ongoing datacenter to cloud migration challenges.. 

  • Seek maximum cost efficiency out of the Cloud platform, delivering value.

  • Lead the design and implementation of our cloud platform systems within the group.

  • Gain a deep understanding of our core business and focus on solutions that form better architecture, not just better code.

  • Drive initiatives across engineering teams with a focus on increasing site performance and stability.

  • Reduce toil and support requests, make the platform easy to use.

  • Work closely with other engineers within your group and across the product  and engineering organization to identify problems and build effective technical solutions.

  • Mentor junior team members and encourage your peers to do the best possible work

  • Advocate for and improve upon our tech culture principles.

We’re excited about you if you have:

  • At least 10+ years of experience in software development, experience building developer-facing tools will be a plus.

  • Excellent coding skills in one or more languages: Java, Go, Scala, C++, Python or Ruby.

  • Experience with Production Kubernetes and service-mesh in AWS or GCP

  • Architecture and Development experience with service-oriented architectures/microservices.

  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, application, networking and http protocols.

  • Ability to work collaboratively through an agile development process that promotes constant team communication.

  • Experience with influencing and implementing best practices for software development in large organizations.

  • Demonstrable full lifecycle ownership (development, testing, deployment, operations).
