Data Engineer - Fintech

Groupon, Inc. is looking for a Data Engineer - Fintech to join our team in Chicago, IL.

How you'll spend your day:

  • You will understand the complete architecture of the data pipeline including scripts, code and data warehouse;
  • Maintain the daily ETL pipeline and ensure that the data is up to date, accurate and available;
  • Implement data checks on top of every schema of the database to ensure data accuracy and consistency;
  • Investigate code to identify bugs and implement appropriate solution for fixing those;
  • Implement new processes using SQL aligning new requirements or a code change;
  • Prepare a test environment including edge cases to test the code before release into production;
  • Identify areas of improvement in the pipeline and data warehouse to ensure optimal resource utilization to save resources;
  • Collaborate with accounting stakeholders to gather data requirements and deliver the on-demand financial reports;
  • Collaborate in the month end close activities to ensure timely data load and delivery of month/quarter/year end reports;
  • Manage weekly release activities, code deployment and validation.

We’re excited about you if you have the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field plus 5 years related experience
  • Any level of experience with implementing ETL/data infrastructure for data retrieval, transformation, and load using SQL and Informatica
  • Any level of experience with developing shell scripts in Unix for the validation, manipulation, and analysis of data in files
  • Any level of experience with understanding client business requirements and translating them into technical specifications
  • Any level of experience with executing by sequence of the jobs and processes in the data pipeline using orchestration tools including Control-M
  • Any level of experience with designing a data warehouse for the storage and retrieval of huge and complex financial data system using Oracle
  • Any level of experience with implementing automation processes to execute the data pipeline with minimal manual intervention in order to achieve a faster data load
  • Any level of experience with developing multithreading in the process to enable simultaneous data load helping the data load even faster
  • Any level of experience with analyzing the data post load, in order to derive useful business insights to help drive decision making using Tableau and Cognos
  • Position based out of Chicago HQ. Can telecommute up to 100% from New Jersey.


  • If performed in New York City, Seattle, or the Bay Area in California, the salary range for this role is between $107,240.00 and $168,520.00. If performed in New York (outside of New York City), Washington State (outside of Seattle), California (outside of the Bay Area), or Colorado, the salary range for this role is between $92,400.00 and $145,200.00. The salary range for this role may be different if performed from another location. This role is eligible for participation in a performance-based cash incentive program.
