Title: Senior HR Business Partner
Location: Valencia, Spain
Preferred Pronouns: He/Him/His
We missed an opportunity when we decided to ask Nacho’s parents if they knew what he did as an HRBP. What we should have asked was, “How proud were you when you realized you raised a magician?”
Tell us about your job! What do you do? What do you love about it?
I’m a Senior HR Business Partner, which means that my job is to translate everything related to Human Resources into the business language. Currently, I am located in Valencia and we have great challenges to face here: tackling new projects, hiring new people, and building out Groupon’s culture. On a daily basis I collaborate with all the teams with regard to their development, career path, team management issues, etc. The best thing about my job is that I get to be a part of the business from the human perspective, helping team members to grow… and why is that important? Because a business is made of the people who form it.
Who or what inspires you?
Good people. Maybe it sounds simple, but I am a huge fan of those who act without looking at their own benefit.
What was your first impression of Groupon as an employer?
At first, I thought ‘these people are positively crazy!’ Everything is changing all the time, time flies… I did a bit of research before joining Groupon and I was surprised to see that this 10-year-old company is continually growing and evolving. I definitely wanted to be a part of it.
What do your parents think you do?
Basically… “you are in charge of paying salaries, right?”
Where were you before you joined Groupon? What brought you here?
I used to work in the automotive industry, but after I heard about Groupon launching a Shared Services office in Valencia I felt that I needed to be a part of that.
Tell us something that might surprise us about you.
During my time in college, I became a magician! I joined a magic club, practiced a lot and I even performed at my own close-up magic shows. It was a lot of fun!
You probably have a life outside Groupon; what are you up to when you’re not at work? What are your hobbies?
I always try to work out after work any way I can: gym, football, padel… anything that will keep my head busy after a challenging day! If for some reason I can’t go through my complete routine, I’ll just go out with some friends, which is always a good idea! Another way I love to spend my free time is through a weekend of laying on the beach during the summer period.
