Tell us about your job! What do you do?
IT is really exciting every day. We have a lot of responsibility when employees come to the office every morning. Every day I coordinate and drive the daily activities to provide the best service to our users. I am in contact with support services for our business to provide support services. We must not forget them because they are important to our business. I also produce useful data for management in order to improve the services when employees contact us.
Tell us something that might surprise us about you.
In 2015, I was hired to lead the IT service desk team in Russia. I was in charge of IT support in the South Europe region while I worked remotely in Russia (Moscow). In mid-2016 Groupon sold this Russian entity and Groupon in Russia ceased to exist. Two years later, I saw there was a vacant IT position in Groupon in Ireland. I immediately applied and now I am leading the IT service desk in the North Europe region.
What’s unique about Groupon’s Engineering culture?
I think Groupon’s culture has unlimited opportunities. We can work on the newest technologies, drive great technical projects with people around the globe, and learn new things during those collaborations.
What’s been the most challenging thing you’ve worked on?
Managing, attracting, motivating, and retaining the best talent in the current state of the economy can be very challenging! Multicultural teams in international companies add great value to organizations but getting the most of everybody’s talents requires a lot of efforts and skills. This task can be especially challenging when your team is sitting geographically far away from you.
You probably have a life outside Groupon; what are you up to when you’re not at work?
My family, technology, volleyball, and cycling.
If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be and why?
IT is my life! If I could do another job for just one day, it would still be a tech role! There are so many opportunities to learn new things in IT, especially at Groupon. The IT industry is huge, so the Groupon Engineering team does everything to ensure we build out our departments and branches to give opportunities to every role in the industry.
Where were you before you joined Groupon? What brought you here?
I worked for a pharmaceutical company for 3.5 years. I came to Groupon because I saw how innovative and open-minded they were as a company. They have given me the opportunity to use all my skills and learn to work with new technologies. In the six years I’ve been here, I have seen Groupon grow and evolve in a good direction. Additionally, Groupon is known for being a place where you care about the people you work with and provides you with so many opportunities for growth in your personal and professional development.
How does your work impact Groupon’s mission of building the daily habit in local commerce?
I do my best to provide a great technological experience for staff during work hours. I do this by reducing and solving issues people might experience to make sure they can do their job without any problems.
What do your children think you do?
My kids think that I’m just typing on a keyboard all day…
What’s been surprising about working here or what do you think external folks would be surprised to learn about Groupon Engineering?
The office atmosphere and how open-minded the people are. Groupon is a place where you enjoy your work and the great people around you.
